Many industrial property offices, especially WIPO, have organised studies and laws on integrated circuits. The World Trade Organisation's Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights Agreement (TRIPS), to which Turkey is a signatory, and the Association Council Decision establishing the Customs Union with the EU emphasise the need for the protection of integrated circuits. For these reasons, the draft law on the protection of integrated circuit topographies was revised with the opinions of many institutions, ministries and universities.

Law No. 5147 on the Protection of Integrated Circuit Topographies was adopted and entered into force on 24 April 2004. The Regulation on the Implementation of the Law on the Protection of Integrated Circuit Topographies regulates the procedures and principles regarding the protection of integrated circuit topographies. The said regulation was adopted in December 2004.

Thanks to these important steps regarding integrated circuit topographies, integrated circuits have become one of the industrial property rights such as patents, trademarks, designs and geographical indications.
