What is the geographical indication registration process?

Information on the geographical indication for which registration application is made is evaluated. If necessary, the opinion of one or more expert institutions or organisations is taken. The geographical indication to be registered shall be announced in the Official Gazette, two daily newspapers with high circulation and one local newspaper. The objection period is six months from the date of publication in the Official Gazette. The objections to be made by third parties during the announcement period shall be sent to one or more institutions and organisations specialised in this field together with their justifications. In line with the opinions received, the application may be amended or rejected. If the application is rejected, this shall be announced in the Official Gazette.
