Breeders' Rights for New Plant Varieties and UPOV Membership

Within the scope of Law No. 5042 on the Protection of Breeders‘ Rights to New Plant Varieties, the Regulation on the Protection of Breeders’ Rights to New Plant Varieties and the Regulation on the Implementation Principles of Farmer Exemption were published in the Official Gazette on 12 August 2004 and entered into force.

Turkey and UPOV Membership

Turkey became the 65th member of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) on 18 November 2007.

Thanks to membership to UPOV, plant varieties registered in Turkey can be taken under international protection and registration procedures within the framework of international plant breeders' rights have been accelerated.
